Persian Dreams

In 1976, Elizabeth Taylor went to Iran (Persia) and was photographed by very young, then art school student Firooz Zahedi. Seriously, how perfect is her face in this shot?

Elizabeth (for the record, she dislikes Liz), has been through the mill healthwise. She has broken her back five times, had both her hips replaced, has survived a benign brain tumour operation, has survived skin cancer, and has faced life-threatening bouts with pneumonia twice.  Plus throw in congestive heart failure and she has been had a rough time and then some.

After purchasing bolts of beautifully colored fabric and scarves at the bazaar, Taylor and Zahedi covered the wood-paneled walls and mid-century Danish furniture of her Tehran Hilton hotel room, Zahedi says. Taylor poses with a single flower.

There is so much I like about this photo, about this whole look. I love Middle Eastern bling. BBF bought Persian kohl eye makeup on the weekend. Love. It. I am a sucker for a dangley earring and a hint of souk in an outfit. Interesting considering I was raised in the two of the whitest suburbs in town. Perhaps I was a Middle Eastern princess in a past life. Perhaps, I just like the pretty.

Meanwhile, I share Elizabeth Taylor in Iran, exclusive to Vanity Fair with you.

Happy Wednesday lovers.
