Film: What To Watch And Ridicule

Why did they make another America Pie film and did anyone go to the last nine or so sequels?

But then there are films such as The Kid With The Bike.

Belgium brothers Jean Pierre and Luc Dardenne wrote a film about a boy who is coaxed out of his violent, angry, resentful life and attitude through the help of his foster parent. You know why I like this movie? Because it is a morality tale. The idea that you cannot and will not move forward with your life, until you let go of the anger and resentment that keep you stuck, like a pair of iron shoes.

It’s not cloying, it’s not manipulative. It’s spiritual and heart wrenching and will make you want to shake off every single excuse you have ever had that has stopped you from letting go and moving forward in your own life.

And then there’s What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Based on the pregnancy advice book. WTF?

Wow, this looks so bad I might have to watch it on DVD. That way I can fast forward through the particularly cringeworthy bits. Hang on, that might be all of it. Hmm…

Then there’s this.

Steve Carell, Keira Knightly. First time director Lorene Scafaria. Not a bad cast for your first movie. Well played. I will see it, although it looks like a cross between The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Invention of Lying. Both movies I liked but the cast is what’s gonna make me want to see this. Keira being funny. I like.

And finally Toni Collette and Michael Sheen in Jesus Henry Christ.

Indie, smart kid, sperm donor, angry teen character, hipster costuming. Why do I feel like I’ve seen it all before?

All we need is Jodie Foster directing and we’re good to go…

Oh blurgh, where is the big rom com? I want to see something pretty and lovely and inspired as well.

Oh wait….that’s right. The Perfect Location…coming to a screen near you…at some point…somewhere…when it get’s optioned.

Okay. Happy Tuesday movie whores.
